In this chapter we examine the prospects for a politics of long Covid through different models of disability. While patient advocacy has so far mainly focused on the need for research into and dissemination of treatments, the medical model is only one possible approach to long Covid and, as we discuss, may have limited utility. We suggest augmenting the dominant approach by drawing on the social model of disability, which politicises disablement and focuses on removing societal barriers. We explore this in relation to neurodiversity theory and disability theory, calling for a new politics of long Covid as part of the broader disabled persons’ movement.
