Incorporating ICT in EAP Classrooms: Boosting Student Engagement Through Quizizz

Technological tools play a pivotal role in assessing students’ learning, particularly in the realm of English for Academic Purposes (EAP). This chapter examines the increasing importance of engaging students in EAP classes and the emergence of interactive communication technology as a prominent teaching tool in English language teaching. Various technological platforms with different functionalities have become integral components of EAP classrooms. Notably, these platforms offer a multimodal function that fosters authentic communication among learners and supports students’ learning, catering to the specific needs of EAP students (Wang & Vásquez, in CALICO Journal, 29(3):412–430, 2012). Quizizz, an online interactive technological platform, has garnered significant attention due to its distinctive features, empowering EAP professionals in lesson organisation, pedagogical innovation, and classroom management. However, it is imperative to acknowledge the limitations of Quizizz. Issues such as the restricted range of background music and the potential for disconnection may compromise the platform's sustainability and contribute to fragmented learning experiences for students. This article underscores the significance of leveraging interactive communication technology like Quizizz in EAP classrooms while also highlighting areas for improvement and further research to enhance its effectiveness as a teaching tool.
