Functional Neuroimaging and Rehabilitation

Neuroimaging is a rapidly advancing field that has allowed researchers to evaluate brain structure and function in healthy and pathological conditions. Neurorehabilitation has also benefitted from neuroimaging approaches by quantifying the cerebral modifications induced by the rehabilitative strategy in a great variety of diseases. Current imaging technologies include, but are not limited to, magnetic resonance imaging, electroencephalography, and magneto-electroencephalography. These techniques are valuable tools to capture rehabilitation-induced neuroplasticity at the motor and non-motor levels, thus providing a novel framework for examining the effects of rehabilitative interventions on the brain.
