Epochal Crises of Time

  • Wayne Hope

摘要

On the argument thus far, fossil-based global capitalism can be epochally defined alongside the Anthropocene, an epoch of earth system history. These epochs represent discrepant timescales (human/geological) and historical vantage points (global/earth), yet they are in convergence. Global capitalism’s ecological and biospheric depredations force earth system processes to unfold in non-linear, volatile ways. Warming temperatures, disrupted seasonalities of weather and ecology combined with geophysical and oceanic tipping point emergencies reinforce capitalist polarizations of human life and threaten humankind’s future.
