Foregrounding the Importance of Knowledge Through Data Feminism

The term data feminism does not make an argument against data science; instead, it provides approaches, examples, and concepts that rethink and exemplify how data science should advocate for and support justice. These power dynamics are addressed and challenged by applying several intersectional feminist principles, which serve as the foundation of a text. Furthermore, a feminist approach to data visualization recognizes the user as a source of information in the design of any visual interface and in the reception of the interface itself. We learn to value different sources of information through data feminism, including the knowledge that originates from individuals as living, feeling bodies in the world. The idea behind data feminism is that data are neither objective nor neutral. In this context, it is vital to note that they are the products of uneven social connections.
