What Is a Team

Over the past 150 years, the nature of work has changed, moving from home to a working space—known as “the office” or “the factory” and the nature of production has changed moving from being primarily an individual pursuit to being a collaborative one. Teams are now the most common way of organizing production. In this chapter, we will explore briefly the nature of this transition and the development of the idea of a “team.” We summarize how practitioners, writers, and professional bodies tried to conceptualize the idea of the team as a starting point to explore team coaching as a developing practice.
