Stress and Burnout: Current Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Interventions from the Perspective of Transdiagnostic Approaches

Stress represents a break in the body’s homeostasis in the face of a threat or challenge and has four phases: alarm, resistance, near exhaustion, and exhaustion. When there are work-related stressors and the individual reaches the exhaustion phase, Burnout Syndrome can occur. This represents an extreme form of occupational stress and involves four aspects: emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and reduction of personal and professional achievement. Stress and burnout can be present in patients with various diagnoses, such as mood disorders, anxiety, and personality disorders. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) aimed at patients with various criteria needs to be based on common processes to a wide range of individual complaints that appear in the clinical context. The transdiagnostic brings together proven evidence-based approaches and effective strategies to meet these demands, develop psychological flexibility, promote behavioral changes and restore the quality of life of affected individuals. This chapter will address the treatment cores available to manage Stress and Burnout.
