Thai Cultural Tourism Attributes: Emerging Trends and Sustainable Practices

Thailand’s tourism industry is experiencing remarkable growth, driven by an increasing number of tourists drawn to its vibrant cultural heritage, stunning natural landscapes, and profound historical roots. The impressive recovery of Thailand’s tourism industry from COVID-19 pandemic showed progress to encounter such challenges and sustained growth to enhance intricacies associated with cultural tourism. The historical sites in Thailand serve as the foundation for a thriving and multifaceted cultural tourism sector. The early development in Thailand’s tourism inspired by cultural experiences and historical sites became the reason for the country’s present tourist offerings. Thailand’s rich cultural heritage, characterized by its temples, historical landmarks, and vibrant festivals, serves as a significant attraction for cultural enthusiasts who are keen on gaining insights into the country’s extensive historical legacy. Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Phuket have emerged as highly recommended destinations among cultural visitors due to their distinctive natural grandeur and immersive cultural experiences. The current study describes the cultural tourism attributes, emerging trends, and sustainable practices supporting Thailand as a preferred tourist destination on the globe. While Thailand has welcomed a significant number of tourists annually, with 39.9 million in 2019 and 11.1 million in 2022, addressing challenges such as over-tourism, balancing economic gains with the preservation of culture and environment, and implementing effective regulations for sustainable tourism has remained crucial.
