摘要

This study investigates the role of women Information and Communication Technology (ICT) specialists in the performance of Ecuadorian companies during the COVID-19 pandemic. Using regression analysis, the study explores the relationship between the participation of women ICT specialists and total sales, controlling for company size, industry sector, use of ICT in different business areas, and geographical location. The results reveal an unexpectedly significant, negative relationship between the number of women ICT specialists and total sales. Larger companies and those utilizing ICT in their supply chains were found to have an advantage during the pandemic. The geographical location did not significantly impact company performance, suggesting that the effects of the pandemic were felt across different regions. The study also highlights the persistent barriers faced by women in the ICT sector, including gender stereotypes, bias, discrimination, and a lack of access to education, training, and mentorship. These findings underscore the importance of women ICT specialists in bolstering company performance during crises and call for further research and efforts to promote gender diversity and equality in the ICT sector. The study contributes to the understanding of gender dynamics in digital transformation and the resilience of businesses in the face of global crises.
