Comparative Analysis of MH Versus LED Prototype Luminaires: Case Study for Lighting Public Areas
摘要
The primary aim of this study is to validate prototype Light Emitting Diodes (LED) luminaires designed for outdoor applications. It involves replacing 7 metal halide luminaires (MH) with 7 LED luminaires, covering an area of 1129 m. The results reveal significant improvements in illumination, as demonstrated by a comparative distribution and illuminance graph. The LED luminaires achieve an average illuminance of 27.9 lx with a relatively low standard deviation of 15.8, whereas the MH luminaires only attain an average of 25.7 lx, accompanied by a high deviation of 24.7. Moreover, the study delves into the environmental and economic implications of this transition. By applying Ecuadorian electrical system factors, it was determined that the LED luminaires result in a substantial 64.8% reduction in energy consumption, equating to 3,740 kWh saved annually. This leads to considerable monetary savings of 505 dollars, and a noteworthy reduction of 1,279 kg of CO2 emissions every year, contributing to a more sustainable and cost-effective lighting solution for the 7-luminaire system.
