Everyday Resistance in Late Colonial Buenos Aires: A View from Judicial Sources

This chapter studies the practices of everyday resistance in colonial Buenos Aires through judicial sources, which allow for considering specific forms of resistance developed by the subaltern sectors and defining the expected and punished behaviors. By analyzing these valuable sources, this study grasps the world of values that sustained the social fabric of the colonial world and characterizes the lower social strata: the majority without wealth, power, or property, which included subaltern sectors such as women, slaves, poor, and soldiery, in the late-colonial society of the River Plate.
