In the realm of global challenges, sustainable construction emerges as a critical facet, bolstering resilience and fostering environmentally conscious practices. This paper, functioning as a critical review, delves into the complex web of variables influencing sustainable construction practices, specifically focusing on Hyperscale Data Centres. Through an exhaustive exploration of scholarly articles, it aims to discern the most suitable research paradigm and methodology for future investigations. The study rigorously examines ontological and epistemological foundations, emphasizing the need for a tailored selection process aligned with specific research goals. Conclusively, it advocates for a methodological framework rooted in realist ontology and post-positivist epistemology. This framework advocates for employing diverse methods, such as expert selection via the Delphi technique, closed questionnaires, and leveraging publicly available data for robust collection. It promotes quantitative analysis, an objective viewpoint (etic), and a deductive approach. This proposed framework aims to establish a robust foundation for comprehending the influential variables in sustainable construction practices. By elucidating intricate relationships among these variables, it seeks to provide an empirically sound basis for further exploration and implementation in the domain of sustainable construction. Embracing a broader perspective within sustainable development, this approach strives not only to explain these complex relationships but also to offer comprehensive insights for future research and practical implementation.
