Bridging Knowledge Gaps: Theoretical Foundations for Identifying Location Variables Impacting the Sustainable Construction of Hyperscale Data Centres in India

This paper critically examines the theoretical foundations necessary for future research to identify the location variables impacting the sustainable construction of hyperscale data centers in India, aligning with the conference theme of sustainable practices and technological innovation. The study identifies and investigates gaps in the literature regarding location variables that affect the sustainable construction of hyperscale data centers. It does this by employing a comprehensive scoping review approach that includes key databases. The literature review explores theoretical and epistemological perspectives, constructing a conceptual framework that emphasizes the significance of location variables. Findings reveal notable imbalances in current studies, focusing mainly on cost-influencing variables in construction sectors such as residential and highways, thus exposing a significant gap in research within the sustainable construction of data centers. Furthermore, the review highlights a disproportionate emphasis on the United States in the existing literature, indicating an opportunity for broader research exploration in regions such as India. This literature review outlines the current understanding of the variables influencing data center modeling and forecasting. Additionally, the paper discusses research approaches, selecting a positivist paradigm and deductive approach as a suitable methodology. Through a combination of predictive theory and action research theory utilizing multivariate linear regression, the proposed research framework aims to address these identified gaps, with a specific focus on sustainability in the Indian landscape. In line with the conference’s emphasis on sustainable practices and technological innovation, this comprehensive theoretical foundation aims to establish an inclusive framework for this research.
