Study of Policies and Effects of the Government on Food Security

With a population of 1.3 billion, food security is a multifaceted challenge influenced by multiple factors such as population growth, climate changes, economic conditions, natural calamities so on and so forth. This paper deals with the policies and effects of the government on Food security, majorly focussing on the subsidies provided. It explores the historical background of agricultural development, the exploitation India faced because of British Empire rule, economic conditions, and societal needs. It also tries to cover the Governmental policies influencing the key components such as pricing, income stability for farmers, and the implications of trade policies related to farm activities. It also delves into the effects of the Green Revolution and the introduction of HYV Seeds introduced by M.S. Swaminathan to bring the sustainability and security of food in India. With that, it also aims towards the awareness and education that can work with food security side by side. It examines how efficient water and irrigation facilities are and the longevity of government initiatives to attain food security. The government is working on various aspects to attain sustainable agriculture and to address food security issues as per the specific challenges, priorities, and strategies. Some of the general policies and approaches that the government considers are covered in the paper such as development of the agriculture, social safety nets, storage and distribution, education and awareness, and research and innovation. Though progress has been made, the challenges for agriculture and the sustainability of food have been continuously increasing.
