Proton, a pioneering name in the Asian automotive industry, emerged in 1983 as Malaysia’s first automotive brand, inspired by the vision of former Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad. Over its 35-year journey, Proton has evolved through strategic partnerships, technological advancements, and continuous innovation. This case study examines Proton’s marketing strategies, emphasizing its positioning strategies focusing on design and style, stability and safety, and competitive prices. Through a detailed analysis of the marketing mix, including product innovation, pricing, promotion, and distribution channels, Proton’s efforts to cater to diverse consumer segments are explored. Despite its successes, Proton faces challenges, notably negative perceptions regarding product quality and safety. This study delves into these challenges and proposes strategies for Proton to overcome them, ensuring sustained growth and competitiveness in the global automotive market.
