Prison, Morality, and Nascent Socioscientific Issues

  • Dana L. Zeidler

摘要

Teaching in a maximum-security prison over the course of an academic year, home to the first electrocution in the world in 1890, is the backdrop for a first attempt at developing responsible pedagogy aimed at developing citizenship through various moral dilemmas. It is also home to the genesis of the SSI framework through a just community approach to democratic and progressive science education. It reveals a grounded approach to the formation of virtue and reveals the precursors of what would later become socioscientific perspective taking.
