Working with Dysfunctional Attitudes and Perfectionism in Bipolar Disorder

  • Thomas Richardson

摘要

Research has shown that those with bipolar disorder have high levels of perfectionist beliefs and dysfunctional attitudes around achievement. These are linked with more severe depressive symptoms. This chapter overviews the evidence for psychological therapies for targeting these beliefs, and how to assess these and include them in a formulation of mood changes. Specific techniques from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Compassion-Focused Therapy are outlined along with possible issues which may present in working on these beliefs. Diversity considerations and recommendations for future research are then outlined.
