Digitalization of the Occupational Health and Safety Management Processes

Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) is one of the most important concerns of the employer, together with the quality of organisation’s products or services and the impact of the organization’s activities on environment. According to EU and national OHS legislation, the employer has the duty to ensure the safety and health of workers in every aspect related to the work, but this objective requires the employer to establish and implement several management processes, e.g., measuring and monitoring the workers’ exposure to noxae, risk assessment, workers’ training, internal audits or evaluation of compliance with legal and other requirements. Digitalization of these management processes can contribute significantly to increasing their efficiency and effectiveness, but also can raise some issue for both the employer and workers. An overview of the issues regarding digitalization of the OHS management processes is presented in this chapter, together with some considerations on advantages and barriers of these processes’ digitalization, from both employer and workers point of view.
