The past two years have undoubtedly made digital health necessary, especially due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The integration of digital technology into the field of medicine has brought about significant advancements, particularly in the realm of neurological diseases. The key areas where digital health has made a substantial impact are represented by early detection and risk assessment, quantification of motor characteristics, prediction of clinical events, early detection and risk assessment, and patient involvement in decision-making. Digital tools enable the accurate identification of individuals at high risk for neurological diseases through advanced diagnostic algorithms and predictive models, and Wearable devices and sensors can continuously monitor various physiological parameters, providing real-time data for early detection of abnormalities. Digital health applications allow for the precise quantification of specific motor characteristics associated with neurological disorders. Predictive analytics powered by digital technology can forecast clinical events in neurological conditions, aiding in proactive and personalized healthcare interventions. Digital solutions empower patients by providing access to information about their condition, treatment options, and self-management strategies. Engaging patients in the decision-making process fosters a sense of empowerment and understanding. Shared decision-making (SDM) is a big challenge in the digital transformation of health, it is a communication style and a set of tools that take into account a person's preferences, goals, values, and cultural beliefs, together with clinical information about health conditions when choosing treatment options. This paper is a comprehensive overview of the role of digital transformation in health, the challenges of the SDM process, decision support (DA) tools, as well as the opportunities and barriers of SDM.
