Digital Transformation and Smart Work in the Service of Productivity

In our times, digital transformation (DT) represents one of the main factors that affect economic entities in a dynamic and changeable global market. Embracing digital transformation will help companies overcome the J-shaped productivity curve and help them increase the effects generated by adopting a series of new technologies. The effects of digital transformation in the service of productivity can include diminishing management costs, optimizing the use of space, increasing effectiveness and worker satisfaction as well as reducing stress, saving resources, and optimizing the energy usage. This chapter presents an evaluation of the literature related to digital transformation and investigates the role and impact of digital transformation on productivity. At the same time, it presents an evaluation of the main competencies that employees and managers should have to meet organizational needs. The impact of DT on people wellbeing, resilience, and collaboration is briefly addressed, the final section concludes with research limitations and future research directions.
