摘要

The Russo-Ukrainian War has ignited a crisis worldwide. The disruptions in the global energy supply chain have frustrated efforts toward decarbonizing the energy ecosystem to attain net-zero carbon emissions as part of sustainable development commitments. However, how the energy supply challenges ignited by the war could impact prospects for global sustainable development is not known. Underpinned by critical document analysis, this chapter highlights how the dynamics within the energy ecosystem could influence economic, social, and environmental activities, thus eventually impacting prospects for sustainable development. The chapter posits that unless the conflict is resolved in time, efforts to transform to clean types of energy will remain a challenge, particularly for developing countries that had just started to adopt gas energy. In the face of limited less environmental impact energies, developing countries are likely not to sacrifice their economic activities in the pursuit of clean energy.
