Standard Mammography Examination Technique

The positioning technique for the standard mammography examination is described in detail, step by step, for cranio-caudal (CC) and mediolateral oblique (MLO) projections. Thorough explanation are given on how and what must be achieved at each individual step in order to meet the quality criteria for mammography. The acquisition geometry parameters, position of the nipple, patient posture and UP&OUT manoeuvre are reviewed. Explanation are also provided on the correlation between anatomy and radiographic anatomy, the fundamental basis of the Poggi method.
