Theoretical Basis of Mammography Screening Programmes and Clinical Mammography: The Breast Screening Centres

This chapter deals with the breast screening programme and its theoretical basis. The examination frequency recommended by the European Guidelines is explained in detail; the professionals who work in centres dedicated to breast screening are also described. The procedure of mammography reading is illustrated, and the basic features of a test are given. Finally, the concepts of personalised, selective and opportunistic screening are introduced, as well as clinical and follow-up mammography.
