The Evolution of the Radiographer’s Educational Path: EBP and Communication Skills in the Mammography Room

This chapter describes the evolution of the path of the radiographer, comparing proposals from different European and non-European countries. The main topic is communication skills, from theoretical foundations to practice, according to accredited guidelines, in particular for the breast radiographer. The postulates of strategic communication, including verbal, non-verbal and paraverbal channels are defined; a section is devoted to communication between patient and operator in case of recall to verify the nature of an abnormality found on the standard examination. Topics such as the sex of the radiographer in the Senology Department, communication between team members and ethics of data management are also covered, with a section on artificial intelligence and its impact on the radiographer’s work routine.
