Ergonomics and Work-Related Musculoskeletal Disorders

  • Cristina Poggi

摘要

This chapter deals with ergonomics as a composite and interdisciplinary science, also considering the legal point of view in a healthcare environment. The focus is on the breast unit: various aspects are described, from the workplace, the room where the mammograms are performed, the lighting, and the image acquisition monitor features. An important section is devoted to the musculoskeletal disorders (MSD) of the breast radiographer, starting with a description of basic joint movements, and ending with a detailed examination of the specific movements required to perform standard mammography, using a stick model to illustrate how the joints are involved. Work-related MSD are listed: positioning advice to minimise them, and specific exercises to limit their occurrence are given.
