Tidal Flat Reclamation

This chapter will explore the impacts that tidal flat reclamation has with respect to tidal dynamics and sediment transport. To facilitate understanding and discussion, case studies of Bohai Sea, Yellow Sea and East China Seas (BYECS) and Yalu River estuary (YRE) in China, will be investigated and analysed to draw conclusions and make recommendations. The following topics are discussed, based on the analysis of two case studies: (1) the significant effect tidal flat reclamation has on tidal dynamics, highlighting the effects near and far across the BYECS; (2) the effect that tidal dynamic changes caused by tidal flat reclamation has on sediment transport, deposition, and erosion, assessed throughout the YRE.
