The Assessment of Building Community Resilience Adjustment for Community Sustainable Development Through Focus Group Discussion (FGD) and Stakeholder Meetings (SMEs)

On this assessment’s section, I assessed a practical methodology using community-participatory action based on the theory of resilience, provided by Walker et al. (CSIRO sustainable ecosystem Canberra Australia, and University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Arizona State University, USA, 2004). Walker et al. used their theory to determine risk perception that embraces resilience in an adaptive manner. An adaptive manner is applied by the community in the research site as “an adaptive capacity” or “an adjustment” rather than as “an adaptation.” It means that “an adjustment” defines more absorptive capacity and collective actions than the community perceived and possessed for handling flood disaster. Meanwhile, “an adaptation” is rather a set of less-direct steps the community takes to turn its resilience efforts into practical actions. Even though most previous scholars and practitioners have used the term “adaptation” as a “connecting concept” between resilience and flood disaster management and vice versa, identifying a comprehensive solution through practical research concerns implemented actions and so the term “adjustment” is used in this analysis.
