Food Safety Management Systems: European and Asian Approach

Food safety management systems (FSMS) aim to prevent food safety outbreaks. However, despite implementation of FSMS, food industries fail to create a food safety culture (FSC). Purpose of this study is to understand the FSMS of developing and developed countries on an example of Indian and European ready to eat food industries. Analytical research approach was adopted to understand the issues faced by industries in implementation of FSMS. Research methodology was comprised of desk research and case studies. It also includes the interviews of food safety professionals. This study highlights the need of FSC in food industries. FSMS can be implemented anywhere but effectiveness can only be guaranteed with FSC, and associated knowledge and awareness Findings emphasized the importance of transparency, knowledge and commitment from involved stakeholders to prevent the rising food safety issues.
