摘要
Dr. Vilray Papin Blair, born in 1871, was one of the founders of plastic surgery as a specialty and was known for innovation in surgery and excellence in surgical education. Further, in 1908, he spent time with Dr. Edward Angle, legendary orthodontist, studying jaw deformities and though he was not the father of orthognathic surgery, he was a key contributor in the early evolution of the treatment of mandibular prognathism. In 1912, he authored Surgery and Diseases of the Mouth and Jaws, which is considered to be one of the first definitive textbooks for oral and maxillofacial surgery and Dr. Blair was a prolific writer, sharing his thoughts and techniques in the advancement of surgery, such as with the 1906 publication, Report of a Case of Double Resection for the Correction of Protrusion of the Mandible, an early editorialization on management of the prognathic mandible.
