Chalmers J. Lyons, “The Chief” was a pioneering surgeon who established one of the first residency programs in oral and maxillofacial surgery in the nation. His article, “The Relation of Oral Surgery to Dental Practice” sought to address the challenges of the day, many of which remain “not far from us” as a specialty, seeking to blend dentistry and medicine.
