Professor Hugo Obwegeser is considered the father of modern maxillofacial surgery. He created and perfected the sagittal split osteotomy and genioplasty, designed instrumentation still used today, and trained countless surgeons worldwide. What he left at the end of his career, published 10 years prior to his passing, was a memoir of how modern orthognathic surgery was developed.
