Dr. Kurt Thoma was a quintessential academic surgeon—prolific clinician, author, and researcher. Thoma was a full scope oral and maxillofacial surgeon—with expertise in trauma management as well as oral pathology. Thoma was born in Switzerland and educated in Switzerland and the United States. He spent his career at Harvard, where he maintained a busy practice, authored multiple texts, and was a Professor of Oral Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania, Harvard, and Boston University.
