Enacting Serious Reforms at Home and Abroad

This is the first of two chapters devoted to rebuttal of possible objections to the argument for Nigeria to build on its journey to principled foreign policy from where it stopped after General Buhari, taking advantage of the inestimable opportunity signified by the declining influence of military rule in Nigeria that Buhari’s departure signified, as well as developments abroad, such as the rise of a new monarch to the throne in the UK, Nigeria’s creator and former overlord. Two main issues this chapter covers relate to objections built around the “But So What” rejoinder to the argument in this work for a human-right policy for Nigeria in the wake of General Buhari’s departure from the Nigerian political scene, and the type of change Nigeria needs for principled foreign policy to the benefit of democratic consolidation within the Nigerian homeland.
