Peacekeeping

  • Philip C. Aka

摘要

This chapter analyzes the possibilities and limits of peacekeeping in the toolbox of a projected human-right policy for Nigeria in an era of decreased influence of the military in the country’s body politic, emblematized by the departure of General Buhari after two unimpressive terms in office as President. Four issues this chapter covers are: the intricacies of peacekeeping; evolution of Nigerian peacekeeping since independence; strategies designed to make Nigerian peacekeeping human-right-compliant; and the role of ECOWAS as an embedded tool of Nigeria’s peacekeeping operations from a human-right standpoint, one justified by the extended discussion on the subregional economic union.
