Wounds of the Hand

Hand wounds should receive particular rigorous and meticulous care. The treatment requires a preliminary good knowledge of the anatomy and is based on the accurate diagnosis of the underlying lesions. The physical examination is vital in guiding the diagnosis: traumatic agent, location of the wound, vascular condition, sensitivity, finger deformity, assessment of the active range of motion, etc. Simple uncomplicated wounds can be managed by the ER physician.
