摘要

Management of traumatic injuries in pediatric patients adheres to special considerations related to the unique characteristics of the musculoskeletal system at this age: The potential of residual growth in the immature pediatric skeleton; the spontaneous ability to progressively correct certain angular deformities without any therapeutic intervention; the risk of progressive deformation or increased residual deformities due to specific injuries (such as those of the growth plate or physis) which may result in epiphysiodesis (partial or complete premature fusion of the growth plate), leading to permanent limb deformity (angular deviation and shortening).
