Knee Dislocations

Knee dislocations are described and named according to the direction of displacement of the tibia in relation to the femur. They can be classified as: anterior, posterior, lateral or medial, and rotatory. The dislocation must be reduced and the lower limb realigned as quickly as possible. Associated neuro-vascular injuries are more common in anterior and posterior dislocations, and they may delay the initiation of the final ligamentous repair.
