Eyelid Surgery Considerations with a Prominent Eye
摘要
The position of the globe greatly affects the function and appearance of the eyelid and vice versa. This relationship must be considered when operating in the periorbital region. ProptosisProptosis should be recognized to avoid an unexpected or suboptimal surgical result. Patients with proptosisProptosis or hypoplastic inferior orbital rims often present with lower eyelid retractionEyelid retraction and are at increased risk for developing retraction. Upper eyelid retraction may also be present concomitantly with proptosis. Eyelid retraction and proptosisProptosis cause patients to be not only dissatisfied with their appearance, but they also may be symptomatic from dry eye and exposure. This chapter outlines prominent eye considerations and techniques to improve the anatomic relationship between the globe and eyelids. The authors also describe upper eyelid retractionEyelid retraction repair.
