摘要

Solid waste management is one of the significant issues faced by countries worldwide. The waste management approach used in Morocco consists mainly of improving waste collection, sorting, and treatment conditions while limiting the nuisance caused by methane emissions and leachate production. In the present work, we have treated leachate from the Ouled Berjal landfill (Kenitra -Morocco) using the Sequential Batch Reactor (SBR) technique. Thus, the leachate was put into two reactors, which differed in the times allocated to each phase. We have assessed the treatment effectiveness by monitoring the removal of NH4+ ions, nitrates, nitrites, phenol, Absorbance at 254 nm, and phytotoxicity. The results showed that the first SBR is suited for leachate treatment with removal efficiencies reaching 98.5% for NH4+ ions, 53% for nitrates, 61.5% for nitrites, 82.5% for phenol, and 66% for Absorbance. In addition, the phytotoxicity tests showed an increase in the germination index from 19 to 47%, indicating that a significant part of the pollutants was removed from the leachate.
