Audiences for the Journalism of the Third Millennium
摘要
In a changing media context, journalism must redefine its limits for the future. The widespread use of the Internet and mobile devices caused the notions of space and time to rupture, and it is now necessary to research the idea of regularity in providing information, the classic criteria to determine if something is newsworthy, and their efficacy as conceptual and organizing framework of the productive news cycle in the present. Just like audiences—now turned into multiple users with different interests who interact in bubbles that combine leisure and work, individual and collective aspects, and opinions and information—management of information and development of news content follow user appropriations that are expressed at any time and place. Confirmation bias and metonymy prevailing in the logic of contemporary writings ultimately cause the offer of information to narrow instead of expanding it for larger communities. In the prime of applying AI to information production, an opportunity to contribute to the innovation of news segmentation arises. This is aligned with the communities which would be of interest to include—in particular, the younger ones—in information consumption on its own terms.
