This chapter explores the various uses of participatory PGIS in socio-ecological systems. It demonstrates how the integration of participatory techniques and GIS technology may help to understand and address complex socio-ecological concerns while also supporting sustainable development and community resilience. The chapter opens with an introduction to socio-ecological systems and mapping that highlights the interdependence of social and ecological components. When tackling environmental and socioeconomic concerns, it underlines the need to consider the linkages between human activities, ecosystems, and natural resources. The author delves into the several uses of participatory GIS in socio-ecological systems.
