Analysis of Wave Motion at the Solid–Solid Interface

This paper focuses on investigating wave behavior occurring at an interface between two different materials: a micropolar viscoelastic solid with stretch and a linear viscoelastic solid half-space. The interface experiences incident waves approaching at an angle, leading to both wave reflection and refraction. By applying suitable boundary conditions, numerical calculations are used to determine the amplitude ratios of these waves. Subsequently, the findings are visually represented through graphical representations created using MATLAB programming. This study’s findings can be applied to understand how seismic waves interact with different layers of the Earth’s crust. Knowledge of wave reflection and refraction at geological interfaces helps in mapping subsurface structures for oil and mineral exploration.
