A Fuzzy Logic-Based Approach to Calculate Similarity Between Crime Aspects of Indian Penal Code Sections and Crime Complaint Report
摘要
In the judicial system, the accurate interpretation of a crime depends on the crime aspects. This research study aims to create a Decision Support System (DSS) aimed at recommending relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) based on different crime aspects. This system utilizes fuzzy logic to evaluate the applicability of the sections based on information on crime aspects present in crime complaint reports. The Decision Support System (DSS) is crafted to assist law enforcement agencies and legal professionals in efficiently analyzing and interpreting the relevance of IPC sections to individual cases, thereby enhancing their ability to make informed decisions. It collects information on offense terms, intent, classification of the offense, modus operandi, and victim impact, representing these inputs with linguistic terms and numerical gradations. Through the application of fuzzy inference rules, the system generates meaningful outputs, helping determine the relevance of IPC sections to individual cases, thereby enhancing the decision-making process in legal contexts.
