Innovation and Technology Integration in the Hospitality Industry in Response to Climate Change
摘要
This chapter explores how innovation and technology integration can help the hospitality industry to reduce its contribution to climate change. In the existing global literature, much focus is placed on the impact of climate change on tourism activities and hospitality operations, with little attention paid to how the hospitality industry also contributes to climate change globally. This chapter is a response to this knowledge gap with substantial practical implications. The chapter takes the form of a literature review of academic chapters accessed in the Web of Science and Google Scholar databases using climate change, energy sustainability, green tourism technology, tourism and climate change mitigation technology or climate change adaptation technology, sustainable aviation, tourism technology, and net-zero emissions as key terms. The chapter shows that innovation and technology integration can help the industry to reduce gas emissions, improve water use efficiency, reduce food wastage, and reduce transport and travel. Future research should focus on how financial resources can be mobilised to support the industry’s transformation from traditional to technological innovations and digitalisation as part of the collective effort to reduce the industry’s contribution to climate change.
