Play is an essential aspect of human life, encompassing physical, social, and cognitive needs with societal benefits. In recent decades, digital games have replaced outdoor play and traditional games, posing health concerns due to reduced physical activity and increased screen time. In Indonesia, traditional games convey moral and physical values. However, children favor digital games for their multifaceted appeal, including gameplay, storytelling, risk-reward dynamics, immersion, social interaction, creative expression, and aesthetics. Designing spaces to rekindle outdoor play is crucial. This study explores design strategies to integrate the appeal of digital games with traditional game activities, which has not been done previously. We conduct a literature review to identify elements supporting this integration. We categorize the resulting strategies into play strategy, spatial feature strategy, and spatial strategy groups, offering a holistic approach to designing play spaces that bridge traditional and digital gaming worlds.
