Vascular Surgery

This chapter explores vascular surgery physician workforce diversity in the United States, with an analysis of representation amongst trainees and practicing vascular surgeons. In general, Black trainees and practicing surgeons within the field continue to be significantly under-represented, while women have seen a consistent increase in representation. Given that health disparities are well-documented within the field, it is imperative that efforts are made to further understand our workforce diversity shortcomings, as this may serve as a one of many valuable tools to improve the care that we provide to some of our most vulnerable patients. This chapter will provide a thorough discussion of the specialty-specific barriers and challenges in diversity, and interventions and solutions.
