Ophthalmology
摘要
While the population of the United States continues to grow increasingly diverse, diversity within the ophthalmology workforce has remained largely stagnant over the years. Efforts to recognize and address this issue may help alleviate disparities in eye health and give rise to more inclusive and beneficial learning environments for future generations of ophthalmologists. This chapter aims to summarize the historical and current representation of the ophthalmology workforce with respect to race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation and gender identity, disability, and international medical graduate status. In addition, this chapter will address barriers to diversity and potential solutions to enhance diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in the field of ophthalmology.
