In that period was founded the Royal Application School for Engineers and Architects in Palermo in which the older engines of the Museum collection were operated for scientific and teaching purposes, such as the Neville stationary engineStationary engine, which well represents the typical steam engineSteam engine widely used up to early’900 in textile factories, mechanical industries, and mines. The museum also houses a rare Willans compound high speed engine and a Ljungström steamSteam turbineTurbine from the 1920s, originally used in a powerplant of Palermo up to 1952. The collection also includes several internal combustion enginesInternal combustion engine from an early Langen & Wolf engine dating to the 1880s, up to a Perkins turboshaft. Among stationary enginesStationary engine, various hydraulic machinesHydraulic machine, such as Francis, Kaplan, and Pelton turbinesTurbine, are also displayed, in order to highlight the first evolution of the fluid machinery technology throughout history.
