Silence and Latin(x) American Children

In this concluding chapter, I discuss my attempt at writing a Shakespearean appropriation. In brief, my play concerns the plight of Latin(x) American children, who like the Indian child in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, are at the center of a dispute. The treatment of children coming to the US from Latin America, many of whom are Indigenous like the child in Dream, is a national tragedy not only because of national politics but because good people are refusing to see and to hear. What happens to these children is central to my play-within-an-academic-monograph. What would these children say if, unlike the Indian Child in Dream, we invited them to speak? Better yet, would we listen? And from listening, what would our actions be? Conclusions are meant to elicit questions for future inquiries. From this, it is my hope that reimagining in my play-in-progress the countless immigrant children separated from their parents and unaccompanied immigrant children through the lens of Dream will cause us, as individuals and as a nation, to act.
