From Digital Survey to Extended Reality. Possible Uses for the Cathedral of Udine

This study explores the application of Extended Reality (XR) technologies to sacred space, taking the cathedral of Udine as a case study. Thanks to the interdisciplinary work of integrating data derived from digital survey and archival documentary information, it was possible to create accurate reconstructive 3D models of the main historical phases of the cathedral. The digital reconstructions offer an interactive tool for researchers to formulate and test hypotheses about the historical configurations and provide engaging educational experiences for the general public. The integration of these models into XR applications demonstrates the potential of these technologies in facilitating a deeper understanding and engagement with the Cultural Heritage through immersive and interactive experiences, while respecting its distinctiveness as a sacred place.
